Mahoubae

Mahoubae are mortal souls who have died at a reaper’s hand. In some cases, reapers offer exclusive contracts, giving them the chance to become something more. Those who accept are sent to Rise City and given a new form of life.

All Mahoubae begin with basic office work, handling routine tasks before moving up within the system. As they advance, some take on other roles within SC Corp, dealing with threats, guiding souls, or joining management. There are many roles within the afterlife for Mahoubae to take on.

They work alongside Synthibae, artificial companions built to assist them both in office settings and out in the field. The Vaythos maintain the illusion of control over the afterlife and enforce its rules on behalf of SC Corp, though not always willingly.

Rise City is not the only hub within the afterlife. Beyond it lies Abyssal, a separate plane that exists in contrast to Rise and its structure. It serves as a refuge for souls who reject SC Corp and the system it upholds.

Abyssal is controlled by the Kumogami, once mortal souls transformed by a curse. They move through space-time portals and consume other souls to sustain themselves.
